Paul Smith's Peacehaven Guestbook

My late mother was brought up in Peacehaven, her name was Mary Seagrove, her father was the local doctor, Dr G M Seagrove. They lived at 17 Hoddern Avenue. She had 2 brothers Gus and Mervyn. Mary learnt dancing at the local dancing school, she had many friends including Peggy Bandy and Kathleen Ray and appeared in many shows at the Peacehaven Hotel. I have many many photographs and probably all the copies of the South Downs magazine and Peacehaven magazine which you are welcome to have. I have enjoyed watching the videos on your website. Please contact me if you wish any more information.
Regards Sarah

Interesting to see a picture of the cinema. I keep looking for my nan in the old photos as she lived in Peacehaven from the 1920's onwards. We have old cine footage of Peacehaven carnival from the 1970's, which I would like one day to put on youtube if I ever work out how to do it.

In the early 1960s (when I was a child) I used to visit the Castle restaurant with my family. As I remember it, the restaurant was run by a Frenchwoman; it was quite formal and the food was very good. We five children were much welcomed and she made a big fuss of us, while talking to my father in French!
